Where I've Been

I was born and raised on Long Island, New York.  I grew up in Suffolk Country, but currently reside in Nassau County.  I have always worked in public service as a librarian and teacher.   I was working in a public library and really missed directly working with teenagers.  I decided to look for a position in a school and was fortunate to find a position in Westbury, NY.  I hated commuting, so I relocated to Nassau County and am very happy there.

My Life as an Educator

I am a very strict, but fair teacher.  I taught Social Studies for a few years, but I worked in a public library part time.  I left the school setting for a full time position in the public library.  As previously mentioned, I missed working directly with young people and went back to education.  I have been teaching in Westbury for 8 years, but I have taught for a total of 10 years.   I definitely prefer the middle school, grades 6-8.  I discovered that the library is an excellent fit for me, I enjoy the diversity of the students and subjects.  I really like to incorporate some sort of technology into my lessons.  Some of the best projects that I have done have used student created podcasts and movies.  Student generated research questions are always more satisfying for both teacher and student.  The final products produced hold more significance for the student.

When I'm Not Working...

When I am not working, I focus on my daughter.  She is two years old and is extremely active and inquisitive.  We like to take walks and play soccer in the yard.  In addition, I love to read (Library - gave it away)!  I am an avid fan of young adult literature and read as much as possible so that I can guide the students to great book choices.  I personally enjoy Science-Fiction and Fantasy novels.  Whenever I have time I like to run and exercise.
